Italian Sausage Sandwich

Posted in : Pork on by : Gerard Frunzi

Basic and easy recipe.

Ingredients

Italian sausage

Any hoagie type buns from the bakery

Marinara sauce (Prego is great)

Mozzarella cheese, slice or shredded

Directions

Select your favorite Italian sausage not in a casing. Make the patties thin and a little longer than the bread bun you are using. It’s easy to make it too thick where the meat will get quite crusty while you cook to temp.

Pan fry the meat in a non stick skillet. Flip often and check temp to make sure you are up to 160 degrees. Pork is considered cooked after 145 plus 3 minutes rest time. For this specific sandwich you should take it to 160 degrees because that’s medium well. This way you won’t be wearing your sandwich as it’s sloppy cooked medium. 170 is well done for pork.

Add cheese to the top and either melt in pan or microwave.

Put on a toasted bun and top with marinara. You can sauté peppers and onions if you like and add.
